Mornington Peninsula BINspiration – Bin Art Project

Artwork by Jackie Green
Mornington Peninsula Shire is encouraging residents to get creative and bring colour to the community by painting your wheelie bins and be in the running for one of six Zero Waste Living Packs!
The competition was inspired by Josie Jones, 2020 Victorian Local Hero Australian of the Year and 2019 Mornington Peninsula Australia Day Citizen of the Year, and local artist Jackie Green who brought her bin to life.
We encourage all households to paint your wheelie bins inspired by what you love most about the Mornington Peninsula e.g. your favourite beach spot, local flora, your local footy club, whatever makes you love where you live!
To get involved, all participants will need to upload a photo of their painted bins to their own Instagram account tagging the Shire’s Arts & Culture Instagram page @mornpenartsandculture and using the hashtag #MPBINspiration
Entries will then be re-shared on the Arts and Culture Instagram page where the community is welcome to vote through ‘likes’ on the post of their favourite design.
The bins with the most likes on the Arts and Culture Instagram page will be awarded a Zero Waste Living Pack. Packs are valued up to $150 each and include a Keep Cup, reusable kitchen and shopping products and your choice out of a compost bin, worm farm or bokashi bin. These packs will inspire residents to minimise waste sent to landfill.
Bin art entries are welcome until Monday 17 August 2020.
Guidelines for entry:
- Water-based exterior paint to be used (please note the Shire will not be providing supplies)
- Do not paint over bin numbers including house number and bin serial number
- Do not paint over bin lids
- Keep designs aligned with Shire values of Integrity, Courage, Openness, Respect and Excellence
- Upload a photo of their painted bins to their own Instagram account tagging the Shire’s Arts & Culture Instagram page (@mornpenartsandculture) and using the hashtag #MPBINspiration
- Entries will then be reshared on the Arts and Culture Instagram page where the community is welcome to vote through Likes on the reshared post of their favourite design. Likes will only be tallied on shared posts on the A&C Instagram page.
- If you do not have an Instagram account please send a photo of your bin to the Mornington Peninsula Arts & Culture Facebook Page @mornpenartsandculture and we will post on Instagram on your behalf.
