Welcome to Collection Of The Lands, a three-part projectional performance art series by Wamba Wamba - Wergaia Indigenous Artist Nathaniel Stewart, AKA@oldmatee788. This series will explore the history and stories of Boonwurrung / Bunurong lands through both the Indigenous and Colonist lenses.
In Nathaniels words, ‘The projects aim is to merge the past and present with both Indigenous cultural and colonist perspectives throughout multiple lightscapes, consequently linking technology and new emerging mediums of art with historical landmarks. These creative spaces will bridge enjoyment and history, visually expressing interpretations of culture narratives and connection. I will introduce and breathe my craft into the local atmosphere, while outlining our Indigenous culture and history that I have perceived to have limited acknowledgement in the Mornington Peninsulas public sphere. By combining art, technology, history and education, I will create an innovative and captivating performance art series.’
Many years have been spent planning, designing, creating and researching to actualise this multifaceted project. T
We would like to acknowledge that this project will be created, delivered and inspired by the Boonwurrung / Bunurong lands and culture. We would like to thank and acknowledge all Boonwurrung / Bunurong People of the Kulin Nation, and offer our respects to all Elders, past, present and emerging. We would like to acknowledge that sovereignty was never seeded and honour the pain that still exists for all colonised people today. It is a great privilege to live and create on this ancient, sacred land.
This art series is supported by the Mornington Peninsula Performing Arts Fund.
