Ruth-McIntosh.png

Ruth McIntosh paints from her studio on the Mornington Peninsula, delivering a select number of commissions throughout the year for those living locally and further afield. Specialising in oils, her approach to light, water and the natural world seeks to evoke a deep sense of connection, calm and belonging for her audiences.

Ruth has painted for many years and has been fortunate to paint the portraits of Mr. Harold Mitchell AC, Mrs. Jeanne Pratt  AO, AC, Mr. Petro Georgiou AO, Mr. George Dreyfuss AM and many other notable figures.  Her work has been exhibited in exhibitions such as the Hidden Faces of the Archibald and Tacit Art Collingwood consistently over the last ten years.

More about the artist

Her portrait of Harold Mitchell hangs in the ‘Harold Mitchell Performing Arts Centre’ at Eltham College.

Ruth taught senior art and graphics for many years, retiring from Xavier College, Melbourne in 2007 to concentrate on her painting and singing.

She has studied the classical atelier method of oil painting under the esteemed artist David Gray in New York, and has had a number of solo exhibitions which show her link with music and her skill in both oil painting and watercolour.

A highlight of her career was that at the very beginning of doing portraiture for Sir William Dargie, although declining to have his portrait done, he did however invite her for an hour-long discussion and encouragement of her work. Unforgettable!
