Proposal Form: Temporary Public Art - Community Partnership
Communities gain value through public art – cultural, social, and economic value. Public art is a distinguishing part of our public history and our evolving culture. It reflects and reveals our society, adds meaning to our towns and uniqueness to our communities. Public art humanises the built environment and invigorates public spaces. It provides an intersection between past, present and future, between disciplines, and between ideas. Public art is freely accessible.
All public art delivered by community on Shire land/assets or funding received by the Shire to deliver public art on private assets is a Partnership with the Shire and is a temporary public art project.
Mornington Peninsula Shire Public Art Policy 2024
This policy relates to the commissioning of new public artworks, including those funded by Council grants and the private sector.
The Policy has six key directions for the development of public art:
-
Celebrate and promote the Shire’s rich First Nations’ cultural heritage as well as engage with local First Nations peoples to better understand their communities
-
Prioritise inclusion, diversity, local culture, and sustainability as key themes
-
Provide commissioning opportunities for local artists, as well as attract national and international talent to the region
-
Embed public art into future infrastructure, urban design, and town centre renewal projects
-
Support high quality public artworks from private development to improve amenity
-
Facilitate opportunities for creative expression and community participation
If you would like to propose a temporary public art project please complete the following Public Art Proposal and email to publicart@mornpen.vic.gov.au

If you are an artist, curator, or creative looking to deliver public art across the Mornington Peninsula, we invite you to fill out the proposal form.
We support the creation of temporary public artworks in this stunning region, known for its vibrant cultural landscape and natural beauty. Temporary and ephemeral public art engages communities by transforming spaces in innovative ways, allowing for experimentation and connection through short-lived installations that spark dialogue and reflection. We encourage you to explore the Peninsula’s unique coastal views, diverse ecosystems, and rich local culture, leaving a meaningful mark that enhances our community's appreciation for art in public spaces.
