Friday 20 September 2024: PAST EXHIBITION

Eleesa Howard’s project ‘Stitched Stories,’ is centred on knitting and is both thoughtful and engaging, emphasizing communication and community through a shared, creative activity.

It is a participatory project, inviting viewers to enter the space, bring their coffees and teas, knit and have conversations.

The installation aims to foster intergenerational interactions and reduce feelings of isolation among older adults by using knitting as a medium to share stories and experiences, promoting deeper conversations.

The installation also challenges perceptions of knitting as a domestic craft and elevate it to a recognised art form and provide a counter-narrative to the fast-paced, digitally-focused world by encouraging mindfulness and presence.

Eleesa is the founder of Hello Creatives, an arts hub dedicated to fostering collaboration among local artists. She has facilitated numerous projects that bring people together and create connection.

“In my artistic practice, I prioritise sustainability by utilizing recycled materials such as cardboard, paper bags, fabrics and threads. Not only does this approach align with environmental consciousness, but it also demonstrates the transformative power of everyday items when repurposed creatively.”
