Friends of the Collins Settlement Sorrento

The Friends of Collins 1803 Settlement group is concerned to preserve the 1803 Settlement under David Collins: the first British settlement in Victoria. They are a group of the Nepean Historical Society.

It also aims to inform the public about:

  • the early British exploration of bass Strait and Port Phillip (HERE), and
  • the frontier relationship between Boon wurrung people and the British arrivals. (HERE)

 

Collection: On display at the Nepean Historical Society - consists of the settlement site and monument, and a small number of relics recovered from the site such as wooden kegs, nails and shackles.

Services/Activities: Display of material at the Nepean Historical Society; CD of the history of the Collins Settlement Sorrento; Research; Promotion.
