The Art of Connection: celebrating the strength of women and the power of shared experiences.
This exhibition brings together a collective of women whose lives have been shaped by strength, resilience, and the pursuit of connection. Many are participants in the Women and Mentoring (WAM) program—women with lived experience of the legal system, and mentors walking alongside them. What unites them is a shared journey of growth, healing, and creative expression.
The artworks featured here reflect a diverse tapestry of experiences. Some pieces were created by women picking up a paintbrush, pen or camera for the very first time. Others were made by those rediscovering long-lost creative practices. Each contribution is an act of courage—an exploration of what it means to connect: with ourselves, with others, with our pasts, and with new possibilities. For women who have experienced trauma, discrimination, or disconnection, creativity can offer a lifeline. It helps quiet the inner critic, build confidence, and allow for stories to be told in ways that words sometimes cannot. Through art, participants have found space to reflect, to reclaim, and to reimagine.
The Art of Connection is more than an exhibition—it’s a celebration of voice, of vulnerability, and of the power of community. It invites viewers to witness the strength in every brushstroke, stitch, stanza, and image—and to honour the women who created them. We thank every artist for their willingness to share a part of themselves. Your work is a gift.
About Women and Mentoring:
WAM is a community organisation that supports women, trans women and gender diverse people with justice system involvement by linking them with a volunteer mentor. WAM mentors meet our program participants in the community and provide support and encouragement to empower them to improve their life outcomes.
WAM does not replace professional supports that women might need to address the issues impacting on them that led or contributed to their offending behaviour but works alongside other support services providing nonjudgemental support and engagement across a broad range of areas.
