Join us for three hands-on workshops designed for local history groups and museums. Led by HistoryAtWork, these sessions focus on key areas of museum management, providing practical tools and strategies you can apply immediately. Join one session or all three!

 

Workshop 1: Significant Assessments with Acquisition/Deaccessioning 

Date: Friday 2 May  
Time: 10am-2pm 
Location: Mornington Library Community Room

  • Assessing Collection Significance: Learn the principles behind acquisitions and deaccessions, and how to assess the value of objects. 

  • Policy Development: Create guidelines for managing your collection ethically and responsibly. 

  • Bring an Object: Bring an item from your collection to apply assessment tools. 

 

Workshop 2: Label Writing and Storytelling 

Date: Friday 30 May 
Time: 10am-2pm 
Location: Mornington Library Community Room

  • Crafting Compelling Labels: Learn how to write engaging labels that connect with visitors. 

  • Storytelling Techniques: Develop skills to create meaningful narratives around objects. 

  • Bring an Object: Bring an object from your collection to practice label writing and storytelling. 

 

Workshop 3: Advocacy and Succession Planning 

Date: Friday 27 June 
Time: 10am-2pm 
Location: Mornington Library Community Room
Cost: FREE 

  • Effective Advocacy: Build strategies to engage the public, funders, and policymakers. 

  • Succession Planning: Learn how to plan for leadership transitions and ensure sustainability. 

  • Action Plan: Leave with a personalised advocacy and succession plan for your institution.
