This exhibition presents a selection of drawings by Benji Gray. Working from an internal world of experience and imagination, Benji’s work begins from within. The animals that inhabit his drawings are not representations of the visible world, but translations of feeling: the force of a tiger, the quick energy of a lizard, the presence of an elephant.
Working with bold colour and expressive line, Benji creates images that are direct and intuitive. Each mark is purposeful and carries an authority entirely his own. Forms are reduced to their essential elements, allowing each figure to communicate a distinct character and energy.
This exhibition reflects the artist’s unique visual language and his understanding of drawing as a means of expression. For Benji, drawing is not simply an illustration of thought, but a language in itself, communicating ideas, imagination and experience beyond words.
