Caitlin from Peachy Keen Ceramics
I first started working with clay in 2018 as a way to connect and explore my creativity. I’ve always been creative, but I’d never found a medium I truly loved. Clay changed that, giving me a way to express myself that felt natural. In 2022, I opened my Mount Eliza pottery studio, Peachy Keen Ceramics, built around the things that had drawn me to pottery in the first place: creativity, connection, embracing imperfection and learning to be kinder to yourself along the way. I value the time and care that goes into making something by hand. No two pieces are exactly the same and that’s part of what I love about working with clay. I enjoy exploring different shapes and textures, trying things out and seeing where an idea takes me. Not everything turns out as planned, but sometimes the unexpected details are what make a piece the most interesting. I bring that same appreciation for experimentation and imperfection to my teaching at Peachy Keen Ceramics. I want people to have a go and discover what they can do with clay, even if they’ve never considered themselves creative. You don’t need to be good at art to enjoy making something. For me, it’s about the experience of making, the freedom to try something different, having fun and discovering what you can create when you find a medium and a space that works for you.
