A stunning new mural by Mornington Peninsula artist Daniel van de Wiel is making a splash at Crib Point Pool.

Created to celebrate the pool’s 50-year milestone, its connection to community and the local landscape, the mural reflects local birdlife and the relaxed rhythm of coastal life that has shaped generations of summers since 1975. The final design was shaped by consultation with the community, following a process that invited locals to vote on their preferred concept – ensuring the artwork truly reflects a shared sense of place.

Known for his large-scale public artworks and expressive visual style, Daniel’s mural brings movement and warmth to the space, transforming the pool surrounds into a welcoming visual landmark for locals and visitors.

Daniel said creating the mural was about reflecting the energy and nostalgia tied to outdoor pools, as well as the immediate environment and ecosystems surrounding the pool’s location.

For many on the Peninsula, Crib Point Pool is more than just a place to swim. It’s where children build confidence in the water, friendships form over long summer afternoons and families return year after year to continue traditions that span generations.

Artist Daniel van de Wiel said creating the mural was about reflecting the energy and nostalgia tied to outdoor pools, as well as the immediate environment and ecosystems surrounding the pool’s location.

“I wanted the mural to feel vibrant, playful and connected to the natural environment, much like summer at the pool,” he said. “Crib Point Pool is a beautiful place and holds so many shared memories, and it was special to reflect that.”
