Overview

The ‘Bush Potato Vine’ is a natural food source for many Aboriginal people, particularly those who live on and around the coastline of the Southern Australia mainland and Tasmania. The ‘potato’ grows on a low growing vine and is generally harvested when it has a colour similar to that of a common potato. If the fruit is eaten before it ripens it can cause illness, and a general indication the fruit is ready to harvest is when the local birds are consuming the fruit.

Glenn is a proud Plangermairreenner (Tasmania) and Bunurong (Victoria) Aboriginal man, strongly connected to Community and Culture. Glenn was born on Flinders Island, Tasmania in 1958 and started painting as a teenager.

The Mornington Peninsula Shire / NBN Co Aboriginal Art Node Project is a partnership to cover sixteen NBN node cabinets across thirteen townships with Aboriginal art wraps from 6 local Aboriginal groups/organisations including Bunurong Land Council, Balee Group, Baluk Arts, Bunjilwarra, Living Culture and Willum Warrain.

This project aims to support and increase awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander groups and organisations on the Mornington Peninsula and celebrate a sense of place and the importance of storytelling through art.
