Overview
This painting tells the story of everyone surviving and coming out of lockdown during the Covid-19 pandemic. The painting captures the joy of everyone happy to see each other again, to reconnect with family and getting outside your 5km radius. The overall design represents our families and community. The colours and butterfly represent happiness and relief, and freedom felt when restrictions eased.
Heather Kennedy is a Trawalway Plermiernier Bunurong artist from Victoria who combines traditional and contemporary art styles. Her work is inspired by stories, life’s journeys and memories of what has been passed to her from her elders, children and grandchildren.
The Mornington Peninsula Shire / NBN Co Aboriginal Art Node Project is a partnership to cover seventeen NBN node cabinets across thirteen townships with Aboriginal art wraps from 6 local Aboriginal groups/organisations including Bunurong Land Council, Balee Group, Baluk Arts, Bunjilwarra, Living Culture and Willum Warrain.
This project aims to support and increase awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander groups and organisations on the Mornington Peninsula and celebrate a sense of place and the importance of storytelling through art.
