Overview

This work is inspired by the diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from all over the country that have found home on the Mornington Peninsula. Our community provides a place of belonging and is a nurturing place of discovery and creativity. We all come from unique backgrounds and many of us share common threads of fractured history and detachment from culture through our upbringing.

Lisa is a Gunditjmara (VIC) and Torres Strait Islander (TSI) award winning artist who has developed a distinctive graphic visual and weaving practice, exploring themes of connection, identity and country. Her work is usually made of many layers that symbolise reattaching layers of history and story to reconnect to her heritage.

The Mornington Peninsula Shire / NBN Co Aboriginal Art Node Project is a partnership to cover seventeen NBN node cabinets across thirteen townships with Aboriginal art wraps from 6 local Aboriginal groups/organisations including Bunurong Land Council, Balee Group, Baluk Arts, Bunjilwarra, Living Culture and Willum Warrain.

This project aims to support and increase awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander groups and organisations on the Mornington Peninsula and celebrate a sense of place and the importance of storytelling through art.
