Overview

Willum Warrain operates a weekly Women’s Group as a healing circle and a place for Aboriginal women to come together for friendship, yarning and cultural activities. The group is strengths based and focuses on increasing cultural knowledge and community connections as a way of achieving healing for our mob which is also reflected in this painting.

Recent projects of the Women’s Group have included establishing a women’s dance group, making emu feather skirts and replanting essential plants in Willum Warrain’s women’s area and continuing to master their weaving skills.

The Mornington Peninsula Shire / NBN Co Aboriginal Art Node Project is a partnership to cover seventeen NBN node cabinets across thirteen townships with Aboriginal art wraps from 6 local Aboriginal groups/organisations including Bunurong Land Council, Balee Group, Baluk Arts, Bunjilwarra, Living Culture and Willum Warrain.

This project aims to support and increase awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander groups and organisations on the Mornington Peninsula and celebrate a sense of place and the importance of storytelling through art.
