Exhibition Title: After Van Gogh (Happy Sunflowers) & Before My Time
Wednesday 18 Feb – Wednesday 25 March 2026
Artist Statement:
After Van Gogh (Happy Sunflowers) & Before My Time is a new exhibition by Victorian artist Sherree. Sherree examines themes of happiness and history through two streams of exploration. The first selection, After Van Gogh (Happy Sunflowers), is a collection of works inspired by the artist Vincent Van Gogh and his Sunflower series of 1888-1889.
Sherree connects deeply to Van Gogh as they have both suffered mental health issues and share a history of the same pains in life. Sherree explores the misunderstood topics of mental health and institutionalisation, using bright colors to convey the happy moments as well as the painful.
“To see moments of love from a world that keeps turning, each artwork represents the greater light. You will find a sunflower for Sherree, a sunflower for Vincent, sunflowers for those that came before us, guiding us, and the sunflower above is the one that sees everything. There are times in life, often dim, however shining through us is the ever-presence of our light. We are the Happy Sunflowers." - Sherree, 2026.
Before My Time is a smaller collection of works designed for the viewer to leave with new memories of happiness and unity, through works exploring mystery and wonder.
Artist Bio:
Sherree is an emerging abstract artist from the small coastal town of Cannons Creek in Victoria. Sherree studied visual arts and art therapy at Chisholm Institute on a full scholarship, completing her studies in 2024. Her practice includes acrylic and watercolor paintings, and mixed media works. Physical disabilities in her hands and mental illness are challenges to her art practice; however, she used her experiences and life skills to navigate through processes and hopes that her works speak messages of hope and artistic freedom. Sheree would like her viewer to observe, ponder and leave with a smile. Changing the world in which we live by spreading confidence and happiness.
Recent works by Sherree have been inspired by the future of fighting bushfires in Australia, with works from 2025 being presented to the CFA and several Australian emergency and government departments where they were received with appreciation and acknowledgement. She has since devoted her artistic journey to support the CFA, endeavoring to create artworks related to issues surrounding the future of fighting bushfires and the recovery process, including an upcoming CFA market fundraiser on 28th of March, 2026 at the Blind Bight Foreshore.
