Around 60 emerging musicians came together for Making it in Music on Thursday 18 September — a vibrant networking event presented in partnership with RPP FM and Mornington Peninsula Shire as part of the Make Music Matter initiative.

Through small-group conversations with industry experts, participants swapped stories, asked candid questions and picked up practical insights to help build sustainable music careers. The night also featured an improv workshop with Poul Grage and a pop-up photography studio run by the Impakt Amplify Youth Music crew.

What was Making it in Music

A free event for emerging musicians - real conversations, real connections.

Miss the ‘Hot Seat’ sessions at our MP Music Summit last year? We’re bringing them back — fresh format, richer conversations, and group participation. Presented in partnership with RPP FM and Mornington Peninsula Shire, this event is part of our Make Music Matter initiative.

Making it in Music is a small-group networking event designed for emerging musicians and music workers to connect directly with industry professionals. Held in small groups, you'll move through six expert-led discussions, where industry guests share insights, swap stories, and answer your questions. It’s practical, low-pressure, and all about building your music career from the inside out. No panels, no PowerPoints — just real talk about what it takes to create a sustainable and creative life in music.

Event Schedule:

Thursday 18 September

5.30 – 7.30pm | Hotseat sessions (15 mins each)

7.30 – 8.30pm | Networking + Jam Session

RPP FM Studios, Mornington
