Mornington Peninsula Shire invites Expressions of Interest from local artists, designers and makers to design and produce a bespoke prize for the winners and highly commended entrants of the Mayor’s Short Story Writing Awards. 
 
This commission offers an opportunity to create meaningful, high-quality keepsake pieces that celebrate storytelling, creativity, and connection to the Mornington Peninsula. 
 
The selected artist will design and deliver a suite of 10 pieces to be presented as official awards. 

 

Project Scope

  • Design and produce 10 similar keepsake artworks  

  • Works should reflect storytelling, creativity, and the Mornington Peninsula community  

  • Suitable formats may include jewellery, small-scale sculpture, ceramics, woodwork, glass, textiles, or other durable art forms

Eligibility

Applicants must: 

  • Be based on the Mornington Peninsula  

  • Work in a relevant creative discipline (including but not limited to jewellery, visual arts, ceramics, woodwork, glass, textiles, or mixed media)  

  • Demonstrate experience producing high-quality pieces 

Budget

A total fee of $2,500 (incl. GST) is available for this commission. This must cover all costs, including artist fees, materials, production and postage/delivery.

Selection Criteria

Submissions will be assessed against: 

  • Artistic merit and quality of past work  

  • Strength, originality, and feasibility of the proposed concept  

  • Alignment with the theme of storytelling  

  • Capacity to deliver within the required timeframe  

 

Submission Requirements

Please include: 

  • Artist statement (max. 200 words)  

  • Up to 5 examples of previous work (images or links)  

  • Confirmation of availability within the project timeline  

Timeline

  • EOI opens: 1 May  

  • EOI closes: 30 May  

  • Artist notified: 14 June  

  • Final artworks delivered by: 30 August
