Salt of the Peninsula: Celebrating Local Surf Culture

The Mornington Peninsula has long been at the heart of Australia’s surf story, and now a new project is honouring that legacy. Salt of the Peninsula is a unique showcase celebrating the rich history of surfboard manufacturing and surfing culture across our region.

Supported by a Creative Grant from Mornington Peninsula Shire, the project brings together incredible replica surfboards that highlight decades of local craftsmanship.

Each board has been painstakingly recreated by iconic local board builders from the 1960s through to the 1990s. The collection pays tribute to legends including Trigger Brothers, Mick Pierce Surfboards, Balin Surfboards, Steve Friedman Surfboards, Oke Surfboards and Parkinson Surfboards.

Housed on a custom-built mobile rack, the collection will form a mobile museum based at the Peninsula Surfriders Club. This moving tribute to the creativity, skill and saltwater spirit of our region will make it possible for more people across the Peninsula to experience and celebrate this rich surf culture.
