Overview
This Artwork represents the connection between Aboriginal people and their traditional country, in that many people see the country, but Aboriginal people see the country and feel the connection as represented by the hand stencil.
The hand stencil contains the story of country, as it has the rivers and creeks, campsites, food sources, and as it relates to Bunurong country, the 6 seasons of the Kulin nation which are Kooyang: (late January – late March), Gwangal Moronn: (late March – June), Chinnup: (June – late July), Larbeuk: (late July – late August), Petyan: (late August – mid-November), Ballambar: (mid-November – late January)
Glenn is a proud Plangermairreenner (Tasmania) and Bunurong (Victoria) Aboriginal man, strongly connected to Community and Culture. Glenn was born on Flinders Island, Tasmania in 1958 and started painting as a teenager.
The Mornington Peninsula Shire / NBN Co Aboriginal Art Node Project is a partnership to cover seventeen NBN node cabinets across thirteen townships with Aboriginal art wraps from 6 local Aboriginal groups/organisations including Bunurong Land Council, Balee Group, Baluk Arts, Bunjilwarra, Living Culture and Willum Warrain.
This project aims to support and increase awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander groups and organisations on the Mornington Peninsula and celebrate a sense of place and the importance of storytelling through art.
