Overview

This painting created by the Willum Warrain Men’s Group portrays the two moiety ancestors of the Kulin nation, the creators Bundjil the wedge tailed eagle and Waa the crow. Other animals are shown as favourite food sources that men fish and hunt for and central to Aboriginal culture.

Willum Warrain operates a weekly men’s group who engage in a range of activities such as making traditional tools, weapons and artefacts (for example, spears, woomeras and shields) and painting. It is an important space for Aboriginal men to come together in a spirit of friendship and have a few laughs and share cultural knowledge with each other.

The Mornington Peninsula Shire / NBN Co Aboriginal Art Node Project is a partnership to cover seventeen NBN node cabinets across thirteen townships with Aboriginal art wraps from 6 local Aboriginal groups/organisations including Bunurong Land Council, Balee Group, Baluk Arts, Bunjilwarra, Living Culture and Willum Warrain.

This project aims to support and increase awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander groups and organisations on the Mornington Peninsula and celebrate a sense of place and the importance of storytelling through art.
