Freedom of Entry Mornington

Residents are invited to witness a rare and historic occasion when Mornington Peninsula Shire grants Freedom of Entry to HMAS Cerberus at a ceremonial parade in Mornington on Saturday 31 October commencing at 9.30am.

Led by its commanding officers and accompanied by the Royal Australian Navy Band, members of HMAS Cerberus will march along Main Street, showcasing the precision, discipline and pageantry of a Freedom of Entry ceremony. Featuring Victoria Police, the parade offers the community a unique opportunity to engage with Navy personnel.

Freedom of Entry is a long-standing naval tradition dating back to medieval times, when trusted military units were granted access to walled towns to replenish food and arms. Today, the tradition is an opportunity to recognise the important relationship between the military and the community, build trust and connection, and celebrate the service of our Navy.

The ceremony follows a previous Freedom of Entry event held in Hastings in 2015, which drew strong community support.

The free event is open to all members of the community, with residents encouraged to line the parade route and attend the official proceedings.
