Artist Bio and Statement:
Rob Hayball is a Hastings local amateur photographer, primarily focusing on taking pictures of the natural world. Rob grew up on the Mornington Peninsula, then travelled the South Coast of Australia for 40 years whilst working as a sheerer and fisherman, before returning to live in Hastings. The works on display show this epic travel journey, with pictures from the Murray River, Bremmer Bay, The Great Australian Bight, and Coffin Bay. Alongside him are the animals, weather and light conditions that influenced his photography, including his dog Gypsy.
Take Only Photos, Leave Only Footprints, is not just a collection of works that show a glimpse into Rob’s life, it embodies his mentality of preserving the environment that give us life, food and work. The long timeframe these works have been taken over, highlights the environmental change even our remote areas are experiencing, going from pristine to plastic ridden. After many years of taking photos on 35mm, digital and phone cameras, Rob is thrilled to be sharing them now with his local community in Hastings. In sharing these works he hopes that people will find them as therapeutic to look at as his practise is for him.
