Are you passionate about public art and placemaking? Do you have expertise in art, architecture, curating, or community engagement?

Mornington Peninsula Shire is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) from experienced professionals and community representatives to join the voluntary Public Art Assessment Panel (PAAP). This is an exciting opportunity to help guide the assessment and development of permanent public artworks across our Shire—ensuring cultural sensitivity, artistic quality, and meaningful community impact.

Purpose of the Panel

The PAAP provides expert, diverse, and community-informed advice on the commissioning, placement, and assessment of public artworks. It plays a critical role in ensuring public art reflects high-quality artistic standards, community values, and First Nations perspectives.

 

Who we're looking for

We are seeking 5–8 expert community panel members with experience in at least one of the following areas:

  • First Nations cultural knowledge (Identifies as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander or has extensive experience working with First Nations artists and communities)
  • Placemaking or public space design
  • Architecture or Landscape Architecture
  • Public art practice
  • Curatorial practice and art commissioning
  • Arts conservation and collection management
  • Community representative from the Arts and Culture Advisory Panel (ACAP)

 

Role of Panel Members

Panel members will:

  • Assess public art submissions and proposals
  • Provide independent, informed advice to the Shire
  • Contribute to best practice in public art commissioning
  • Ensure cultural and community relevance
  • Participate in up to four meetings annually
  • Adhere to the Shire’s Code of Conduct and maintain confidentiality

 

Selection Criteria

Applicants will be assessed on the following:

  • Relevant professional or lived experience in one or more of the identified areas
  • Demonstrated understanding of public art and its role in community and placemaking
  • Commitment to cultural sensitivity and inclusive practices, particularly regarding First Nations engagement
  • Ability to work collaboratively and offer constructive, evidence-based advice
  • Availability to attend meetings (in person or online) up to four times per year

 

Term of Appointment

Members will be appointed for a two-year term, with the possibility of renewal for an additional term.
