Peninsula LIVE invites community to share local music stories and memorabilia

Mornington Peninsula Shire is calling on our community and visitors to contribute to Peninsula LIVE: Stories from the Mornington Peninsula, a new community-led exhibition and public art project celebrating the region’s live-music culture.

What and where will the exhibition be?

The project will feature a large-scale public artwork on the external wall of the Mornington Peninsula Shire office in Mornington. Alongside exhibitions at our Community Art Spaces at Mornington Library, Hastings Library and Somerville Central, showcasing community-submitted posters, ticket stubs, vinyl records, photographs and personal memories from live music across the Peninsula.

Public art - vinyl collage: A high-resolution scanned collage of community-submitted ephemera (posters, tickets, flyers, Polaroids) printed as a large-format vinyl to be installed on the StoryWall site in Mornington. All submissions require release forms for reproduction and public display. A QR code will be linked to the webpage with stories.

Mornington Library — Framed Tracks: Community call-out for vinyl records to be loaned for display. Records will be framed (record sleeve visible) with a short label describing the donor’s memory of the record or gig.

Hastings Library — With the Band: A people-powered exhibition of photos and selfies taken with performers or at memorable gigs; labels will capture short captions (who, where, why it mattered). Stories/memories will be available on the webpage

Somerville Central — Loud & Proud: Heavy Music at the Mechanics’ Hall: Focused historical show exploring punk, hardcore, metal and heavy-duty touring acts and local bands who used Somerville Mechanics’ Institute Hall as a venue. Displays will combine posters, setlists, photos and short band histories.
